Why it matters for land work. Registration gives public notice of a transaction and is how a conveyance of immovable property is completed. The Supreme Court in Suraj Lamp relied on the scheme of this Act and the Transfer of Property Act when holding that agreement/GPA/will arrangements do not convey title.
Practical point. States can amend aspects of registration and stamp procedure for their territory. Check the Haryana or Delhi position, and the current procedure of the registering office, before relying on a general description.
