Why it matters. An instrument that is not duly stamped can be impounded and is inadmissible in evidence until duty and penalty are paid. Duty on a conveyance is usually computed on the higher of the consideration and the collector-rate value, but check the current Haryana provisions and notifications for the instrument in question.
